Sri Lankans use humor every day to reduce stress. Even in buses and shops people joke with strangers. Mixing Sinhala and English jokes is very common. The word “pissu” can be friendly, not offensive. Self-irony is appreciated more than sarcasm. Laughing loudly in groups is totally normal. Many jokes are about daily life, not politics. Calling a friend “machan” makes humor warmer. If someone says “boruwata,” it means relax, don’t be angry. Knowing a few jokes opens more doors than perfect grammar.
