Family is extremely important in Sri Lankan culture. People often live close to parents, grandparents, and relatives, even as adults. Words like amma, thaththa, akka, and aiya are also used politely for non-family members to show respect and closeness. When you use family terms in Sinhala, you immediately sound warmer and more natural.
