4 · Cultural Note 🇱🇰

Food is one of the hearts of Sri Lankan culture. Most families eat rice and curry at least once a day. Meals are often shared from several dishes in the center of the table. Guests are always offered tea, even during short visits. Saying “bath kamu” is a friendly way to invite someone to eat together. Many people still enjoy eating with the right hand instead of cutlery. Spiciness can be adjusted, and it is normal to ask for “adu særa.” Street food and small eateries are important social places. Coconut, rice, and spices shape almost every traditional meal. Learning a few food phrases quickly brings you closer to local life and new friends.
