4 · Cultural Note 🇱🇰

Food is one of the warmest ways Sri Lankans show love. Rice and curry is usually eaten by hand. Every home has its own style of “hodi.” Coconut is used in almost every meal. Guests are always offered tea first. Saying “rasai” makes the cook very happy. People often share food even with strangers. Breakfast can be string hoppers or roti. Spiciness can always be adjusted if you ask. Learning food words opens many friendships.
